KERA News: Julie Johnson Heads To Austin As One Of Dallas County’s First Two Openly Gay Legislators

“I got elected not because I’m part of the LGBT community but because I have a strong commitment to public education and I want to solve health care and I want to work on issues that affect all Texans…. I love my wife very much, and I’m proud of who I am, but I’m a lot of things. I’m excited to bring all of me to the Texas Legislature.”

Texas Association of Business Endorses Julie Johnson for Texas House District 115

Carrollton, Texas TXBIZ PAC, the political action committee for the Texas Association of Business endorsed Julie Johnson for Texas House District 115 as a part of their 2018 candidate endorsements today. TXBIZ PAC supports candidates who are committed to business development in Texas and issued the following statement about their slate:

“The Texas Association of Business State PAC Board chose to support the candidates willing to focus next session on the critical issues facing Texas – investment in transportation and infrastructure, innovation in manufacturing technology, economic development, education, and job creation,” said TXBIZ PAC Chairman Brett Graham. “We look forward to working with these leaders in January.”

Julie Johnson released the following statement:

As a small business owner, I understand how the decisions I make in the legislature will impact our state and local economy. According to a 2017 study commissioned by the San Antonio Area Tourism Council, implementation of my opponent’s “Bathroom Bill” could cause our district to initially lose over $55 million in revenue and approximately 300 jobs — while causing our state to lose up to $3.3 billion in revenue and over 35,000 full-time equivalent jobs per year. I will fight to keep similarly bad legislation from becoming law and will partner with anybody that is focused on keeping Texas the number one state for business development in the country. As the voice of the business community in House District 115, I am thrilled to be endorsed by the Texas Association of Business.”

A prominent District 115 business leader responded to Johnson’s endorsement:

“Barkley Stuart of Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits is proud to support Julie Johnson for the Texas House and is thrilled that the Texas Association of Business agrees that Julie will be a positive voice for entrepreneurship and economic development in our state.”

“I’m delighted that the Texas Association of Business State PAC Board has chosen to support Julie Johnson for House District 115. As a TAB board member, I feel we must support candidates who are pro-business, pro-jobs and pro-tourism, and Ms. Johnson is clearly the better candidate who’s aligned with our priorities,” stated Phillip Jones, president/CEO of VisitDallas.
